Came out of work this afternoon to notice that drivers front tire on the Mini was completely flat. Spent a hour getting the space saver off of the bottom of the car (a really stupid place to put it) and onto the car. I also hate stud type lug nuts and the hubs that hold on to the wheel. I get home on the spare and investigate the tire to discover that the tire is fine and it was the valve stem which failed. Yay, I don’t have to replace the tire. But this car has TPMS meaning that the valve stem probably costs more than the tire. Shit.

Update: turns out the TPMS sensor is not a part of the valve stem but rather a separate part. My mechanic ended up fixing it for free. I am taking the car in on Friday anyway to have a bunch of little issues adressed anyway.

It was $120 on my Dart and since yours is a German Brit, at least $500 ;)

My 05 came with run flats, which refused to buy. For years, I just rode around with a pump and a can of fix a flat. Had a really lucky few years that I never needed it

Not that expensive.

I would be very surprised if it costs less than $100. Meanwhile the tires are $89 each on tirerack last time I checked.

I am glad I don’t have run flats. Until I have to mess with the filthy spare under the car.

It’ll probably be around $120 installed. Where as the tire would be more than $89 after mounting, balancing and installation.

I had those 17" wheels that weighed a ton each, and run flats, but I autocrossed with the 16" v-spokes and falken azenis. I bet I dropped at least ten pounds each corner.

Well the existing tire needs to be removed, remounted and balanced so that the valve stem can be replaced.

Which is why it’s going to be about $120. That’s about how much it was on my 128i
